Croak by Gina Damico

Lex is supposed to be a good girl but she is behaving wildly. So parents ship her off to live in upstate New York with her Uncle Mort. They hope that a few months of hard and dirty farm work will whip her into shape. But Uncle Mort is no ordinary farmer. He is a Grim Reaper, and Lex is his new apprentice. Lex soon adapts to the town of Croak but she desires justice for murderers. Will Lex leave her Uncle to destroy these murderers? I found Croak  interesting because of the idea that juvenile delinquents are harvesting your soul. I found the idea very ironic because most people wouldn't trust juvenile delinquents with anything, much less their souls. I also really enjoyed the plot of the book. Gina Damico has managed to skillfully add shocking twists into the story. Twists that make you want to keep reading. I would give it 4 stars. Hate List by Jenifer Brown

Valerie and her boyfriend Nick create a list. A list of people they hate. The Hate List. Valerie believes the list is made to just vent out some anger, but Nick is very serious about it. Nick brings a gun to school and starts picking people off of the Hate List. Nick then shoots himself. Valerie wakes up in the hospital and greeted by blame and hatred. Valerie goes back to school and tries to cope with the loss of her boyfriend, loss of her friends, and quite possibly the loss of her sanity. Will she survive or will succumb to sadness piling up on her? All of my friends and teachers kept telling me to read Hate List . I kept putting it off because I really didn't want to read a story about a school shooting. But eventually I succumbed to the recommendations and read it. When I finished reading it, I realized it wasn't a story about a school shooting. I was a story about recovering and healing and facing your fears. Valerie's story struck a chord in me because of her...

Contagion by: Robin Cook

Dr. Stapleton is a forensic pathologist in New York City. He has come across quite a few unusual cases but the ones he starts are getting are quite weird. A series of lethal and virulent diseases-capped by a rare strain of influenza, start to arouse his suspicions. To find the truth, Dr. Stapleton teams up with Terese Hagen, a art director at a advertising firm. Is it a conspiracy or just a person with a vendetta?   I was looking through the library shelves when Contagion  caught my eye. I read the blurb and decided to give it a shot. I enjoyed Robin Cook's writing style. It reminded me a bit of Dan Brown. I also enjoyed the way Robin Cook created his main character. I liked Jack Stapleton, the cynical-sarcastic man. Some of the medical terms went over my head, but other than that it was a great book. I will warn you there is a major twist, I never ever could have predicted. I will give the book 4 stars.
