The Great Train Robbery by: Michael Crichton

Edward Pierce can fit into the lavish lifestyle of Victorian England as well as the poverty ridden one. Edward Pierce charms people, with his good looks and smart ideas, of every social standing as he plots the crime of the century. He is willing to risk it all as he takes on England's pride, the steam locomotive, to steal a copious amount of gold. Will he pull it off or will the steam locomotive get the better of him?

I enjoyed The Great Train Robbery because I am a huge fan of criminal shows especially "Leverage." "Leverage" focuses on the stealing part of criminal activities. But specifically on the thieves and not the cops or the police. The Great Train Robbery gave me an insight on how robberies in the "olden" days were done. I also enjoyed the way Michael Crichton included bits of history that weren't pertinent to the story because it established the time period of Victorian England better. I would give The Great Train Robbery 4 stars.

We Were Liars by: E. Lockhart

Meet the Sinclairs. There are no drug addicts in the Sinclair family. Nor are there any criminals. Or failures. The Sinclairs are perfect: tall, athletic, handsome, and as if that isn't enough rich. It doesn't matter that bills go unpaid, and that pill bottles lay around in stacks or that they barely have hearts left from losing family members left and right through divorce, because the Sinclairs are perfect. Now meet Cadence Sinclair Eastman. She is the heiress to her grandfather's massive fortune. But Cadence is far from perfect. She is weak. She suffers migraines. But that is after. No, let's first talk about before. Before: Cadence spent her time with Mirren, and Johnny, Gat too, but he came along in summer eight. Her family called them the Liars. The Liars: Gat, Mirren, Johnny, and Cadence. They are the best of friends but soon their friendship turns destructive. Lies upon lies are told, because the Sinclairs are perfect. But Cadence wants the truth. Read it. And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

My friend was reading We Were Liars when I first saw it. It looked interesting, so I added it to my to-read-list. But I finally got access to it after almost 5 months. When I read the blurb, again, I had forgotten that I wanted to read it. But when I finished reading the blurb I realized it was the same book. I loved We Were Liars. I loved it because of the way it was written. Every page was laced with mystery which kept me wanting to read more. I loved it because of the twists and turns it took. But the main reason I loved it was the ending. So sorry, but I can't say anymore than, the ending will shock you. I would give We Were Liars 5 stars solely because of the mystery and the ending.

Just One Day by: Gayle Forman

Allyson Healey's life is planned and ordered. On the last day of her post-graduation three week trip, she meets Willem. Willem is everything Allyson is not, free-spirited and brave. So when, Willem asks her to abandon her plans and come on a one day trip to Paris, Allyson agrees. This completely unexpected answer begins, the best 24 hours of Allyson's life. Those 24 hours are filled with adventure, risk, and freedom. Those 24 hours are the ones that transform her. A story of travel, identity, and "accidents." In order to be found you must first get lost...

Just One Day is an amazing book. I have got to hand it to Gayle Forman, she really knows how to keep you guessing. You think you know what is going to happen and then wham! 180 degree turn. But that is only half of the reason I loved Just One Day. Gayle Forman takes you on a journey, a journey of losing, finding, searching, and coincidence that maybe, just maybe, might be fate. You spend time with the characters, watch them mature, grow, learn, and change; And among it all, you change. I would give Just One Day 5 stars, for the beautifully implemented writing techniques and the way Gayle Forman can make you lose yourself in her story. I will warn you though this book has the ability to cause a serious case of book hangover.

The Mute Anklet by: Radhika Nathan

It is the 1790s and the third Anglo-Mysore war is about to reach its climax. Uma Brooke, a beautiful girl in the charge of the maharajah of Madurai, is having a conflict of her own. The maharajah wants her to marry Captain Trevelyan of the British Army, who was a few weeks ago attacking Madurai. Uma does not want hurt her guardian but she cannot imagine a future with a Briton. Captain Trevelyan on the other hand is indifferent of the marriage, accepting it as a peace offering after losing the war. On top of that, Uma personal affects keep getting broken into, which soon morphs into targeted attacks. Will Uma and Captain Trevelyan's relationship survive or will it fall apart because of verbal assaults and prejudices?

The Mute Anklet is historical fiction. In the past I have had bad experiences with historical fiction, so I was a bit apprehensive to read The Mute Anklet. I thought I would get bored halfway through it. Turns out, I was wrong. I couldn't stop reading. The reason I kept reading was to see how the relationship between Uma and Captain Trevelyan would turn out because they complemented each other perfectly but didn't realize that or couldn't look past their prejudice to see that they were perfect for each other. I liked that I learned something by reading The Mute Anklet. I would give it 4 stars.

Jobless Clueless Reckless by: Revathi Suresh

Kavya is comfortable with her name. Her brother's name? Not so much. She is mortified of her address: 708, Kansas, Grand Canyon, Banglore, India. She has friends that believe she is a vampire, (at best). Sure, Kavya has issues. But the ones mentioned earlier are the least of them. Her mother is trying to cut them off from society in general. Her father is trying to cut himself off from her, her brother, and mother. She has board exams, and she hasn't studied, at all. Can she just start her life over again?

I started reading Jobless Clueless Reckless and I was shocked. *Eyes pop out of skull, chin hits the floor* I was shocked because of the way it was written. The language, the texting type of writing. and the sentence structure do not in any way seem like something Revathi Suresh would write, (I say this because I do know her and you do not expect this kind of writing from her). After I recovered from that shock I found the book to be good. Which is to say average, not too mind-blowing. I think that the back cover or the blurb hyped up  the entire story a bit too much, which made me expect certain things in the book, but my expectations were never realized. Another issue that I had was that the book was a bit hard to follow, in the beginning mostly, but there were certain times later on when I felt a bit lost. I would give Jobless Clueless Reckless 3 stars.
