Can't Look Away by: Donna Cooner

On the internet Torrey Grey is famous. Thousands of people watch her videos on beauty and fashion. Her world is as perfect can be, she has a cute boyfriend, a loyal best friend, her videos are popular, and she's getting kind of famous, on the internet at least. Just then does disaster strike, Torrey's sister dies in an accident and Torrey and her videos might be to blame. In an instant, Torrey's perfect world is in pieces.

Torrey and her family move away from their old place to try to move on with their life. In her new school, she doesn't know who to trust, queen bee Blair, who likes her only because she is famous on the internet, or Raylene who is unpopular but accepts Torrey for who she is? Strangers online are hating on Torrey and she can't seem to stay away from Luis, a boy whose family owns the local funeral home, a boy who tell her stories about El dio de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). As Dio de los Muertos comes nearer Torrey will have to learn how to mourn her sister out of the public eye and examine her feeling about life and death.

Can't Look Away is book that I picked up as I was browsing through the stacks at the library. I read the blurb and actually rejected it only to come back and take it with me. I'm glad that I didn't reject it but I wouldn't have missed out on something great if I had rejected it.

It was a good book, emotional with a strong character presence. I found Can't Look Away a bit stereotypical and I was able to almost accurately predict the ending of the book. I was very exasperated by the decisions Torrey made at the beginning of the book but I was very glad to see that she grew some sense (and made me lose my exasperation).

It made me become more emotional that I had expected. I thought it would be a quick read with no emotions attached. There were several times while reading the book that I felt my throat tighten...

All in all good book, not bad, not great, just about average. I would give Can't Look Away 3 stars. I won't discourage you from reading it nor will I encourage you to read it. You choose.

Followed by their shock at the fact that I haven't seen it yet. My reason? My general experience has been that reading the book is a more enjoyable experience than watching the movie. I am glad that you are here! My name is Toshita and I have written all of the reviews on this website. I read mostly fiction usually Young-Adult fiction, however I do enjoy reading all types of books. I have been running this blog since 2014 but it has been an on again, off again type of affair. Due to the fact that this blog has existed for such a long time the formatting of the reviews has changed.
