The Heir by Kiera Cass

Disclaimer:  This review is about the fourth book in the Selection. This review contains spoilers to The One by: Kiera Cass, you have been warned, proceed with caution.

Princess Eadlyn Schreave has grown up on stories of how her mother, America Schreave, and her father, Maxon Schreave met. They are a fairytale, twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection of Prince Maxon, and won his heart, never to look back. Eadlyn has always found the story romantic but she wants to put off marriage as long as possible. But her life isn't always her own as she's a princess, and no matter how hard Eadlyn tries, she cannot escape her own Selection. Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance but as the Selected arrive, some entries may start capturing her heart. Finding her own happily after might not be as hard as Eadlyn once thought.

Let me start by saying, I was really looking forward to reading The Heir, for two reasons. The first being I would finally get to see what it was like on the other side of the Selection. The second being I would get to see America and Maxon's HEA (happily ever after) played out.

I expected the book to be another exciting story with lovable characters. I expected to see the beautiful children of Maxon and America raised as people who would make the world a better place.

Here's what actually happened: I absolutely hated the book. Hated it with all my being. Never ever have I hated a book this much. I hated the book because Eadlyn is just horrible. I hate her. Eadlyn is whiny, bratty, evil, and harsh to everyone. Instead of Maxon and America having children that make the world a better, they have their oldest child making the world a horrible place and she's the one who is going to rule the kingdom one day?! I'm pretty sure America and Maxon's HEA just dissolved into a horribly ever after.

Lastly, the ending. The book ended abruptly and with the world's lamest cliffhanger ever. A ten-year-old can write a better cliffhanger than that! All in all the was horrible and I telling you, read the first three and forget that the fourth book exists. I am giving The Heir 1 star. Ninety-nine percent of the star is pity, the other one percent is to say, sometimes you write a book and you DON'T publish it.
